Banner Exchanges/Advertising

Hey All,

Call me thick, but ive noticed something and waiting on a response from a company about my concerns, but wondered if anyone else had noticed it.

If a banner exchange/Advertising site has different logins for say

Publisher
Advertiser

Are they blocking your ads in the Advertising account being shown on the publisher account.

Ive purchased some clicks and have started to notice my own banners from my advertising account showing on my publisher account.

So in theory, im paying for clicks from my own sites,

Has this happened to anyone else?

Im considering either cancelling the advertising, or removing the ads from my site(s) while I run the campaign.

I can send myself clicks from my own site for free lol......

Since you have 2 accounts, it will see you as 2 people......and your correct, you will see your own ads/banners.

NOW...for the good side. If the exchange is CLICK based, you are losing nothing. Unless you click on your own banners HAHA!!

Most of us use a IP limeter, so it will take you a LONG time to get clicks to add up in your account.

Hi Paul,
yes, if you have 2 accounts the system don't know your exchange site belong to your advertiser account. The same problem you get if you use one exchange account for multi sites, you should signup for every site a new account. The script check your user ID and account URL and will not show your banner on the URL from this account

Best is buy from one and use another. Or advertise with one banner size and don't use this one as exchage user.

I checked BF and can't see any advertiser account from you so I belief its not BF

The company in question was 1upmedia, they rectified it quickly so its all good.
Now my own sites are blocked from the publisher account.

I wasnt talking about myself clicking ads, but other visitors, as it would charge x for the click, but the earning would be less on the publisher side.

I dont click my ads lol, but I did see it alot which was a concern if I had chosen CPM based.

@Stephan, I wouldnt signup for an exchange for every account, that would be annoying lol. Bad enough having to do it for adsense and other networks lol.
I do have an advertising account with you under lfhost2 :P But only use it when I buy direct from you and not the marketplace.

But all is good now :P

To have separate account for your sites just help you not to display your own banners on your sites and also to have the stats separate. This is my next step for BF thought, so members can add multi sites and just have to switch over without to logout and in. Something like VCM offers.
I will talk with my coder, belief he can add to the advertiser accounts the option to “register” your exchange account and your banners will not be shown.

If you have different accounts for every site, doesnt that increase and not decrease the chances of showing your own banners?

If you have all in 1 account, that would be much better, as you can then split by site or by all and not have to remember loads of logins and reupload loads of banners etc.

Many users use domain names as user name to remember or your own "nick name" for your site.

If you have one account for site A and you also place this code in site B, the banner you point to site B in account A will also show on site B, so if a player clicks on the site B banner on site B he comes to the same site again and will look strange ....hope I explain this well

So if you have separate accounts, at least the click goes to the other site of you and doesn’t confuse the clicker. And you get credit anyway again for this click.

Thats what I use :P Same as my username here :P lol.

What would be better is if you could just block all your own accounts from being shown on your sites.
That way, it doesnt matter how many accounts you have, you know your ad wont be shown on your sites.

I know you get paid back with traffic, but if the traffic is paid for, its not always a match.

Theres also no guarantee it would be unique, as if you send from 1 site to another of your own and then they clicked an ad which sent them back to the 1st site, then it works out less as its not a unique user.

There are too many if buts and maybes which is why Id have them all blocked if I could, but its taken care of on the site I was worried about :P

The banners you see that are yours on your sites, you shouldnt worry to much....IF....IF, you bought traffic as clicks. I also agree it would be nice if this script did self blocking.

Im not worried :P Only for the 1up site, the rest im not worried about as I dont see my own ad through them.

Well, all it would need is an extra field for a comma delimited list to say which accounts the user has and dont include them in the exchange list.
