    Compress your images

We all know that pagespeed is a big factor or become a big one in SERP's. We all have games with thumbnails and alot of them (specialy mochi) do not compress those images themself.

You can use an online service like:
    http://www.punypng.com

Or a really really good and with batch! feature to compress you images/thumbnails:
    http://www.irfanview.com/

I prefer ifranview because the batch is really good, puny has a maximum of 25 and doesnt get the images compressed as hard as irfanview can. You can adjust the settings to which you like and all images will get the same compression i saved a few mb's on my images.

Just get the icon/thumbnails from your ftp to your harddrive and run the batch and reupload most of my thumbnails are now ~5kb and still looking good.

I'm also using irfanview for a long time already.

    To use the batch option:
    - open the program Irfanview thumbnails
    - select the images in the screen you'll see
    - choose: File --> start batch dialog with selected files
    - set the quality options for the jpg, to what you want, 80 is a good setting, perhaps 75 too, then they will be even less in filesize.
    - set the advanced options if you wanna resize them etc. I recommend to make them a little bit smaller (dimensions) than you want on your site, your script can expand them a bit, that way the file size is smaller, but still it's good to display.

it can save a lot if you re-do all your images.

    good luck.

    Thanks for your tips,
but where did you get that information from?
Google never said that pagespeed is or will be a "big" factor in SERPS.

Its not so much of a "big" factor but google has said it takes loading speed into consideration more so now than it did before.

What jason says, big might have been too much, but they are putting more weight on it.

Hey this is a cool little prog. I used it earlier and saved over 10 mb (most of the thumbs I made before were all 25kb+ and now in the 4-6kb ish range. You can even use this prog to watermark and resize all your images at once. Very nice! Thanks again Geo!

Thanks for the information, but will search engine bot actually download the images to see if the page load fast or slow? Seems that the bot just down the text in the page. Is that right?
