I’ve been trying to learn SEO and would like to know what are the most important factors to be considered for onsite SEO

Titles
Meta description
Meta keywords
internal linking
keywords density
quality content
sitemaps
alt tags for images
This along with tough offsite SEO should help you rank very well in the search engines.

I just started to try my hand at SEO stuffs and the MODs here turned me onto Google Webmaster Tools. That is the only thing I have been using and I have made progress on the sites I use it on. Granted it isnt the only thing you should do, but me for it was a great start!

my list of on site to do things,
1> Customize your page titles as well as possible,
2> Unique page meta description approx 160 characters for (if nothing else) your sites main pages.
3> good internal linking structure on site. and good url management is part of this dont leave your urls to whatever your script creates out of the box make em work for you.
4> Perhaps the best, easiest , and maybe the most important thing ... old saying content is King and for arcades TEXT is content ... not the gamefiles.
5> Get things right from the get go and leave it alone.

First you need to know which keywords to target by doing research with Adwords Keyword Tool and Google trends. Your domain name is very important too. Of course all the pages and categories of your site should have related keywords in them. When using in on page text they should be bold.
