What should I do if my rankings drop by 10 pages in the SERPs?

how long you had your previous rankings, how competitive they were, if you’ve done anything to purposely deceive the search engines, how long rankings drop has existed, etc

to answer this question simply, I would say to forget about that keyword and target new ones (unless google booted you out of the search completely). If you still rank for other keywords, then google most likely discredited all your links with the anchor text of your primary keyword. You can wait it out a month or three to see if google just sandboxed your site. Ive read cases to people this has happened and after 3-6 months they suddenly re-emerge even stronger in the SERPS for that keyterm than before. But I wouldnt bet any money on it, that's why Id say to start targeting new keywords.

optimize your pages more for those KW and keep consistently building backlinks for those KW. You might have built a good deal of links fast then STOPPED and this is most often what sends up red flags to big G. Also build all kinds of links and structure them well ( don't be a one trick pony ).

Some ideas:
Lev 1: yoursite | Rss Feeds from it
Lev 2: articles leading to your site | 3 way links | hub pages + other profiles and blogs | Youtube channel + vid
Lev 3: Social Bookmarks to level 2 | Blog comments Lev 1 + 2 | spun articles pointing to main one etc...

Dont give up and be consistent you can come back up with consistent effort and diversity but there is no one source of links to get you there. Also update your site often with content to show Big G there is a reason why you are getting all these links. I hope this helps and it has happened to me before and this is what I done to clean things up.

We have to check our previous version against current version of website in we have compare at all angle and by them we have to find out why our website rank goes down and try to increase it.

If your ranking drop by 10 pages in search engines then there could be few reasons.
1. You stopped SEO altogether
2. You tried some BH
3. Your competitors are becoming more powerful
4. Maybe its Government - lol

Or maybe the search engine itself FIR6.It's not unknown that G are sorting through the list shall we say.And money (adwords) will take rank before the freebies..

I say you not only forget about the keywords but forget about the site itself , there is no point in spending money on trying to build links on a site which might have been permanently black listed by google, this happens precisely due to building forum or profile links in a large number or going for a massive blog comment blast, start a new site do some bookmarking , buy some traffic and then write some article and keep building links slowly and steadily to look as natural to google as possible, believe me with a fewer links you will rank much higher then sites with tons of links ....
