    Reciprocal links

    Reciprocal links

You put a link on your site to mine and I'll put one on my site to yours. Sounds fair doesn't it? Ha! but there's a catch! What if you are an honest Joe like me and believe the person on the other side is honest and you do your bit by adding the link to the other guys site but ... back at the ranch ...

    1. S/he never adds the reciprocal link back to you. You've been had!
    OR
    2. S/he sends you and email saying "here's the page with your link ..." but the page with your link is not linked from anywhere else on this person's site! You get it? Your link is on the other site but the page it is on can never be found on that site ... you've been scammed!
    OR
    3. S/he waits for 2 weeks then removes your link but you still link to him/her. Scammed again!

Reciprocal links are great and work very well because of the way search engines rank sites. However, they are open to abuse. Use with caution and be sure you grasp what is written above before blindly jumping onto the reciprocal link bandwagon.

I think reciprocal links are still a good way to help your site to get higher in google SERP, but you need a strategy. I can tell you how I proceed with this kind of links. First I get a links page full of arcade/flash game sites. Then I take 1 site and I check the IP, because I'm trying to get backlinks from different IP's, and there's a lot of webmasters owning a couple of sites hosted on the same ip, so I need just 1 link from that IP. After that, I add on my site 1 link to that site, and after I fill the form on his site. I always check the page where my link will be added for nofollow links or casino, porn or other shit like this. I open a notepad and I copy/paste there the url of the links page and the date when I've added his link on my site. Usually I allow 2-3 weeks, but no more than 1 month, to add my link on his site. After 1 month, I delete his link from my site, if my link wasn't approved yet. I periodically check for my backlinks, at least 1 time per month, because there are many "honest" webmasters that will delete your link after a while, but there are also good webmasters that will keep your link for years.
In my opinion this kind of link building is working, but only as a part of a link building campaign. Doing 100% reciprocal link exchanges can damage your site temporary or permanently. Always use at least 3-4 kind of links, do 3 way, 4 way, site wide, home page only, post on blogs, forums, etc.

think you are a little too pesimistic, Ady, or you are too unlucky to meet so many bad guys.

I never build reciprocal backlinks ... waste of time ... plus that you must check them all the time...
